Future Leaders

Cited from "Cultivating future leaders" from Lynda.com

Good leadership is to serve both short term and long term needs. The very nature of living right here and now biases us towards thinking a little too much about short term needs.
  1. Identify top talent in the organization. Who knows how to communicate well, motivate others, make solid decisions and deal effectively with conflict.
  2. Collaborate with these future leaders to define their development plans.
  3. Diversification: expanding the breadth of functional and technical tasks; level of responsibility: accelerate their level of authority.
  4. Prioritize retention of future leaders: recognize and reward young leaders in development in a manner that makes them fell genuinely valued, i.e. competitive wages and benefits, public recognition of achievements, and inclusion in decision-making with higher-level managers.
You might be successful today, but your ability to use these four tips to develop your pool of talent will be the deciding factor in your success for the years to come.
